Foster Youth Success Initiative (FYSI) College and Financial Aid Resources for Students

This resource guide provides information about programs and services available to support all young people who have ever been a part of the foster care system, enroll in and succeed in college. The introduction includes an overview of the California Community College (CCC) Foster Youth Success Initiative (FYSI) and provides critical information regarding foster youths eligibility for priority registration in CCC’s and in California State Universities.

Now available on campus! The Burton Book Fund is now available to help students pay  for  textbooks. Did you know, you may be eligible to receive a book voucher up to $350  depending  on your enrollment status? In order to be eligible for the Burton Book fund, students must be enrolled in a post-secondary education institution and who were in foster care on or after age 13. If you think you may qualify for this book voucher, please contact Alyia Pilgrim located in the Financial Aid Office.

Legislation passed a new state law effective September 21, 2016, AB 801 which amends California Ed Code Section 2.5 of Section 66025.9 (a)(1) which extends priority enrollment for foster youth and former foster youth until January 1, 2020 and extends the age to 25.
